On 20 June Blackadders hosted our annual Charity tournament. It was a great day, ending with an epic drop-off!
We welcomed Northern Valkyries and Percy Park U17 teams on the day, joined by Ankle Breakers and Can’t Touch This made up of individual players from Rockcliff Rugby Club social players, Blackadders, Percy Park Pirates Touch , Alnwick RFC – Touch Rugby Ashington Touch Rugby Club and Newcastle Ravens RFC.
The first part of the day was a round robin format with some well contested games and great tries, with Can’t Touch This top of the leader board in time for lunch. We had some fun team games, with team ref even joining in for the sack race! Ultimately the Northern Valkyries won the very tight pass the water challenge with their slick coordination.
Following the semifinals Northern Valkyries and Ankle Breakers battled it out for 3 and 4th place, and finals saw a close game between Percy Park Pirates U17 and Can’t Touch This go to a drop-off. In the end Can’t Touch This took the victory with a try from their youngest player.
With thanks to our ref team on the day who had this to say “Thanks to all that pitched in and helped with the reffing, it was fantastic to see everyone volunteering and getting involved. From experienced to those reffing a tournament for the first time. It was great to see. Standard of play was also really good, making our jobs a lot easier too!”
All proceeds from the day go to our important charity of the year Sarah’s Star.
